India vs England, 4th Test – India Steady at 264/4 in Manchester

Guwahati,Assam - 24 July 2025:
India posted a steady 264/4 at stumps on Day 1 of the fourth Test against England yesterday. India's captain Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bat first under overcast skies.

Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal looked in fine touch once again, stroking a fluent 58 off 107 balls, laced with 10 boundaries. He and KL Rahul (46 off 98) gave India a solid 94-run opening stand, blunting the new ball with caution and elegance.

After both openers fell, the spotlight turned to Sai Sudharsan, who impressed with a calm and composed 61 from 151 balls. He anchored the innings smartly even as India lost skipper Shubman Gill (12) cheaply and Rishabh Pant retired hurt on 37 after a promising start.

At the close of play, Ravindra Jadeja (19)* and Shardul Thakur (19)* remained unbeaten, steering India to a decent total heading into Day 2.

For England, Ben Stokes led from the front with figures of 2/47, while Chris Woakes and Liam Dawson chipped in with a wicket each.
