Teen Sensation Suryavanshi Stuns IPL with Record Century

In a moment that sent shockwaves through the cricketing world, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name into history by smashing a blistering 101 off just 38 balls for Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 28 in IPL 2025. The teenager, bought in the mega-auctions at just 13, has now become the youngest-ever IPL centurion at 14 years and 32 days-shattering the previous record held by Manish Pandey (19 years, 253 days).
Suryavanshi’s explosive innings wasn’t just a spectacle-it was a statement. Walking in due to an injury to skipper Sanju Samson, the teenager faced world-class bowlers with astonishing composure. The first ball he faced in the IPL? Launched for six. And he never looked back. His 35-ball century left even seasoned cricket veterans speechless.
Despite Rajasthan Royals’ slim chances of reaching the playoffs, the spotlight is firmly on Suryavanshi. His fearless hitting, especially on the offside-a rare trait at such a young age-left bowlers and fans stunned.
“He’s got a great downswing which helps him generate this kind of power,” said Royals’ batting coach Vikram Rathour. “From the first day of trials, we knew he was special.”
Off the field, Suryavanshi remains as fearless as he is on it. In the nets, he’s known to take on even Jofra Archer with no hesitation. “He’s not intimidated by anyone,” Rathour added.
RR captain Riyan Parag and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, both typically articulate, were at a loss for words after the game. Suryavanshi's knock was more than just runs-it was the arrival of a new era.
With power, poise, and a precocious cricketing brain, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has transcended the 2025 IPL. And he's only getting started.
