Narine's All-Round Brilliance Lifts KKR in Thriller

In a high-octane IPL clash, Sunil Narine led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a stunning comeback win over Delhi Capitals (DC), showcasing his all-round brilliance. Chasing 205, DC looked poised for victory with Faf du Plessis and Axar Patel firing on all cylinders. However, Narine’s late spell flipped the script.

DC had earlier neutralized KKR’s pace threats, punishing them for overpitched deliveries. KKR still managed a strong start, reaching 91 in seven overs thanks to Narine, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Ajinkya Rahane, who played quick cameos. But their mid-innings slump, triggered by tight bowling and consistent wickets, meant they posted 204—only the second-highest total at the venue this season.

DC’s chase began brightly, despite early setbacks including a bizarre run-out of KL Rahul, thanks to a direct hit by stand-in KKR captain Narine. Faf du Plessis found form, while Axar, battling a hand injury, smashed three sixes off Narine. With 69 needed off 41 and big hitters in the dugout, DC looked in control.

That’s when Narine turned the game again. He dismissed both Axar and Tristan Stubbs in a game-changing over. Using smart captaincy, he brought back Anukul Roy and persisted with spin against du Plessis, who struggled to accelerate against it. Eventually, du Plessis fell trying to force the pace.

Varun Chakravarthy, despite an off night, delivered a clutch 18th over: dot, wicket, wicket. KKR’s spinners squeezed DC into submission, sealing a crucial win that kept their playoff hopes alive.

KKR now sit on nine points from ten games, while DC, with 12 from ten, face pressure to hold onto a top-two spot.

Player of the match-Sunil Narine.
