India Dominates Day 2 at Edgbaston: Gill's Double-Ton Puts England in Deep Trouble

Shubman Gill's magnificent double-century anchored India's imposing first innings total of 587, leaving England reeling at 77/3, trailing by a massive 510 runs at stumps on Day 2 of the 2nd Test at Edgbaston.

Gill's Masterclass Puts India in Command

Day 2 of the 2nd Test between England and India at Edgbaston saw a dominant performance from the visitors, spearheaded by a monumental innings from captain Shubman Gill. Resuming from their overnight score of 310/5, India continued to pile on the runs, eventually declaring their first innings at a huge 587 all out in 151 overs.

The star of the show was undoubtedly captain, Shubman Gill, who converted his overnight score of 114* into a career-best 269. His marathon effort, spanning 387 deliveries and featuring 30 fours and 3 sixes, showcased exquisite strokeplay and unwavering concentration. He was ably  supported by Ravindra Jadeja, who contributed a valuable 89, and Washington Sundar, who added 42 crucial runs.

For England, Josh Tongue and Shoaib Bashir were the pick of the bowlers, both securing two wickets apiece, while Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Ben Stokes, and Joe Root each chipped in with a wicket. However, the sheer volume of runs conceded highlighted the challenging day for the home side's bowling attack.

England's Top Order Crumbles Under Pressure

In response to India's formidable total, England's first innings got off to a shaky start. The opening pair of Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett failed to provide a solid foundation. Duckett was dismissed for a duck by Akash Deep, and Ollie Pope also fell without scoring to the same bowler, putting England in immediate trouble.

Zak Crawley showed some resistance with a quickfire 19, but his dismissal to Mohammed Siraj left England reeling at 37/3. At stumps on Day 2, Joe Root (18*) and Harry Brook (30*) were at the crease, attempting to rebuild the innings. England finished the day on 77/3 after 20 overs, still trailing India by a massive 510 runs.

With three key wickets down and a huge deficit to overcome, England faces an uphill battle to save this Test match. India, on the other hand, will be looking to press home their advantage on Day 3 and secure a commanding victory.

Let's wait!
