Guwahati,Assam- July 4, 2025 – In a captivating display of T20 cricket, England Women secured a dramatic 5-run victory over India Women in the third and final T20 International at the iconic Kennington Oval. The win, coming after a hard-fought contest, saw England successfully defend their total of 171, much to the delight of the home crowd.

Having won the toss and electing to bat first, England’s innings was spearheaded by an exceptional partnership between Sophia Dunkley and Wyatt-Hodge. Dunkley, in sublime form, top-scored with a magnificent 75 runs off just 53 deliveries, an innings punctuated by 7 fours and a six. Wyatt-Hodge provided excellent support, smashing 66 runs from a mere 42 balls, including 7 fours and 3 towering sixes. Their formidable stand laid a strong foundation for England.

However, India’s bowlers, particularly Deepti Sharma and Arundhati Reddy, fought back commendably in the latter half of the innings. Both bowlers claimed three wickets each, with Deepti Sharma’s economical spell yielding 3 for 27 and Arundhati Reddy’s impressive 3 for 32. Shree Charani also chipped in with two crucial wickets, helping to restrict England to 171 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs.

Chasing a challenging target, India’s reply was anchored by a fluent half-century from Smriti Mandhana, who scored 56 off 49 balls. Shafali Verma provided an explosive start, blistering 47 runs from just 25 deliveries, featuring 7 fours and 2 sixes. Jemimah Rodrigues and captain Harmanpreet Kaur also made valuable contributions with 20 and 23 runs respectively.

Despite these efforts, England’s bowlers held their nerve under pressure. Lauren Filer was the pick of the English attack, bagging two wickets for 30 runs, while Lauren Bell, Issy Wong, and Sophie Ecclestone each claimed a wicket, with Ecclestone being particularly stingy, conceding only 24 runs from her four overs. As the match reached its climax, the English bowlers maintained tight lines and lengths, ultimately stifling India’s chase and restricting them to 166 for 5.

The tension was palpable in the final overs, but England Women’s collective effort and strategic bowling changes ensured they emerged victorious by a narrow 5-run margin, sealing a memorable win in this high-stakes encounter.(source-cricbuzz)
