India Women beat England Women by 24 runs in the 2nd T20I at Country Ground, Bristol on July 1, 2025. Jemimah Rodrigues and Amanjot Kaur shine with the bat.
India Women made a confident statement on the international stage with a 24-run victory over England Women in the 2nd T20I at the Country Ground in Bristol. This thrilling encounter saw a solid performance from India's top-order, with both Jemimah Rodrigues and Amanjot Kaur playing pivotal roles in setting up the win.
India Women’s Dominant Batting Display
Put in to bat first, India Women posted a formidable total of 181/4 in their 20 overs. The opening partnership was quick to fall as Smriti Mandhana (13) and Shafali Verma (3) couldn't capitalize on the early overs. However, the star of the innings was Jemimah Rodrigues, who blasted a brilliant 63 off 41 balls, including 9 fours and 1 six, striking at a phenomenal 153.66. She was well supported by Amanjot Kaur, who also played an impactful knock of 63 off 40 balls* (strike rate of 157.50), guiding India to a competitive total.
Richa Ghosh, who is known for her explosive batting, made a useful contribution of 32 off 20 balls*, anchoring the middle-order.
In response, England's bowlers, particularly Lauren Bell and Lauren Filer, did manage to take wickets, but they couldn't stem the run flow. Bell was the standout bowler with 2/17 in her 4 overs.
England Women Fall Short in Chase
In reply, England Women struggled to build partnerships. The top-order failed to deliver, as Sophia Dunkley was run out for just 1 and Danielle Wyatt-Hodge followed shortly, dismissed for a duck by Deepti Sharma. Nat Sciver-Brunt fought hard with 13 off 10 balls, but England's chase lacked momentum.
The highlight for England was Tammy Beaumont, who played a valiant knock of 54 from 35 balls. Her knock included 8 boundaries and 1 six, and for a while, it seemed she could turn the game around. However, wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, with key players like Amy Jones (32) and Sophie Ecclestone (35) falling to India’s spinners.
The bowling attack for India was well-disciplined, led by Amanjot Kaur (1/28), Deepti Sharma (1/30), and Shree Charani (2/28). Their collective effort, alongside excellent fielding, put England's chase out of reach.
Key Performers:
