King and the Crown Prince: Jaiswal's Maiden Ton & Kohli's 'Free' Batting Seal ODI Series for India!
Summary: Team India delivered a commanding, dew-defying performance in Visakhapatnam, winning the 3rd ODI by 9 wickets to secure the series 2-1 against South Africa. While a record-breaking Quinton de Kock (106) lifted the Proteas to a competitive 270, India's spin-pace combo of Kuldeep Yadav (4/41) and Prasidh Krishna (4/66) choked the middle order. The chase was a batting spectacle, featuring a monumental 155-run opening stand, during which Rohit Sharma (75) crossed 20,000 international runs. The ultimate glory belonged to Yashasvi Jaiswal, who hammered his maiden ODI century (116*) to earn the Player of the Match award, and the 'King', Virat Kohli (65* off 45), whose aggressive series performance (302 runs) earned him the Player of the Series crown.
Jaiswal Joins Elite Club as Kohli Unshackles Himself to Deliver 2-1 Series Triumph!
Visakhapatnam, December 6, 2025: The ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium witnessed a clinical demolition job by the Men in Blue, who not only conquered a tricky target but also overcame the toss factor to secure their 10th ODI series win on home soil in the last 11 attempts.
The Toss Advantage & De Kock's Stand
Skipper KL Rahul, winning India’s first ODI toss after a 1-match streak of losses, chose to field, a decision aimed at mitigating the late-evening dew. Though South Africa's innings saw Quinton de Kock launch a breathtaking 106 off 89 balls-his third consecutive ODI century this year-the rest of the batting unit failed to capitalize on the foundation.
Pacer Prasidh Krishna (4/66), despite an expensive start, came back strong to claim the vital wickets of Breetzke, Markram, and the centurion De Kock himself. The middle-order collapse was orchestrated by the wrist-spin wizard Kuldeep Yadav (4/41), who masterfully cleaned up the lower order, restricting the Proteas to a slightly below-par 270.
Rohit's Milestone and Jaiswal's Leap
Chasing 271, the tone was set by the openers, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who stitched together a 155-run partnership.
- Rohit Sharma: The veteran Hitman scored a fluent 75 (73 balls), achieving a monumental milestone by becoming only the fourth Indian player to cross 20,000 international runs. His aggressive knock kept the scoring rate healthy and shielded his younger partner.
- Yashasvi Jaiswal: Playing just his fourth ODI, the 23-year-old left-hander showcased immense maturity. After being the supporting player, he accelerated beautifully, bringing up his maiden ODI century (116* off 121). In doing so, Jaiswal joined an elite club, becoming only the sixth Indian to score a hundred across all three international formats (Test, ODI, T20I).

Kohli: The 'Free' King and the Final Charge
When Rohit departed, it was Virat Kohli's turn to apply the finishing touches. Kohli, who finished the series with an astonishing 302 runs at an average of 151.00, batted with renewed confidence. "I feel really free in my mind. I haven't played like this in 2-3 years," the former captain admitted after the match. His unbeaten 65 off just 45 balls, punctuated by trademark aggressive strokes, ensured India completed the chase in just 39.5 Overs.
Kohli's spectacular performance, which included two centuries and a half-century in the series, justly earned him the Player of the Series award, signalling his total return to his dominating best.
