Heartbreak in Colombo: Rain Denies Pakistan Women First Win in ICC Women’s World Cup 2025

Pakistan Women were in control chasing 113 under DLS vs England, but persistent rain led to match no result. A golden chance for their first World Cup win was washed away.

Rain Ruins Pakistan Women’s Chance at Historic Win Over England in ICC Women’s World Cup 2025

Colombo, October 15, 2025 – Pakistan Women were within touching distance of scripting their first victory in the ongoing ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, but cruel rain showers once again left them stranded and winless in the tournament.

After losing five straight games, Pakistan Women’s team looked determined to turn their campaign around when they faced off against England Women in a rain-hit encounter at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

England’s Innings: Fatima Sana Stars with the Ball

Pakistan won the toss and chose to field first-a decision that paid off almost instantly. The bowling unit, led by captain Fatima Sana, showed exceptional discipline and intensity.

  • Fatima Sana returned with impressive figures of 6-1-27-4, including the key wickets of Heather Knight, Amy Jones, Nat Sciver-Brunt, and Charlie Dean.

  • Sadia Iqbal chipped in with 2 wickets, while Rameen Shamim and Diana Baig took one each.

England struggled for momentum and managed just 133/9 in 31 overs after rain earlier in the day shortened the match.

Pakistan’s Chase: Strong Start Cut Short

Under the DLS method, Pakistan were set a revised target of 113 runs in 31 overs. They began confidently, reaching 34/0 in 6.4 overs, with Omaima Sohail looking fluent with a run-a-ball 19 (18)* and Muneeba Ali steady on 9 (22)*.

But just as they started settling in, the skies opened again - this time for good. The match was no result, and both teams shared a point each.

Missed Opportunity for Pakistan

This match was arguably Pakistan’s best chance to get off the mark in the World Cup. With the bowlers firing and openers giving a solid start, a win was well within reach - until the weather intervened.

They now remain at the bottom of the points table(4-0-3-1-1), still searching for their first win of the tournament.

What’s Next for Pakistan?

Pakistan will face New Zealand Women on October 18, in what will be another crucial game. With their World Cup hopes hanging by a thread, a win is now non-negotiable.
