India’s Women’s World Cup Squad Announced: Renuka Singh Returns, Shafali Verma Left Out

Big boost for Team India! Pacer Renuka Singh is back for the World Cup, but young star Shafali Verma misses out on the ODI squad. Full team details inside!

In a major boost for the IndianWomen team, star pacer Renuka Singh and all-rounder Amanjot Kaur have recovered from their injuries just in time for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup. The big news, however, is the continued exclusion of explosive opener Shafali Verma from the 50-over format.

Yesterday,The national selection committee, led by former India captain Neetu David, picked the squads for both the World Cup and the important home ODI series against Australia that comes before it. The meeting also had captain Harmanpreet Kaur, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, and head coach Amol Muzumdar giving their inputs.

Renuka Fit for Australia Series, Amanjot Still Recovering

Team captain Harmanpreet Kaur provided positive updates on the fitness of the key players. Lead fast bowler Renuka Singh, who missed the entire Women’s Premier League (WPL) due to a stress fracture, has regained full fitness and will play in the ODI series against Australia. This is great news for Indian fans, as Renuka's swing bowling is crucial for the team's success.

All-rounder Amanjot Kaur, another important player, is currently working on recovering from "a few niggles" at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. While she has been selected for the World Cup squad, she will not be playing against Australia as a precautionary measure.

Selectors Explain Shafali Verma’s Omission

The decision to leave out young batting sensation Shafali Verma has raised many eyebrows. Chief selector Neetu David addressed this, assuring everyone that Shafali is still very much in their plans.

“Shafali played the Australia-A series. She is in the system. We have our eyes on her,” David said. “We hope she plays a lot more and gains more experience. This will surely help her serve the Indian team better in the 50-overs format in the future.”

This suggests the selectors believe the 20-year-old needs more time to develop her game for the longer and more strategic ODI format.
