MI Clinch a 12-Run Victory Despite Karun Nair's Heroics; Karn Sharma Named Player of the Match
In a nail-biting IPL clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the Mumbai Indians (MI) pulled off a dramatic 12-run win over the Delhi Capitals (DC), defending a daunting total of 205. After losing the toss and being put in to bat, MI’s batting line-up rose to the occasion, posting 205/5 in 20 overs with a collective team effort.
Despite a quiet start from Rohit Sharma (18), MI found momentum through the explosive duo of Ryan Rickelton (41) and Suryakumar Yadav (40), who played brisk knocks to set the tone. Tilak Varma’s commanding 59 and Naman Dhir’s unbeaten 38 in the death overs gave Mumbai the final push, setting a challenging target for the home side.
DC's bowling attack had some bright moments, with Kuldeep Yadav impressing once again with a tidy spell of 2/23. Youngster Vipraj Nigam also picked up two wickets, albeit a bit expensive (2/41), while Mukesh Kumar chipped in with one.
In response, Delhi Capitals came close but fell short at 193 all out in 19 overs. Karun Nair led the charge with a sensational 89, nearly pulling off a stunning chase. Abishek Porel (33), KL Rahul (15), and Ashutosh Sharma (17) made crucial contributions, but the Capitals kept losing wickets at regular intervals. A chaotic 19th over saw both Kuldeep Yadav and Mohit Sharma run out, sealing DC’s fate.
MI’s spin wizard Karn Sharma turned the game with a match-winning spell of 3/36, earning him the Player of the Match award. Mitchell Santner supported well with 2/43, while Deepak Chahar (1/24) and Jasprit Bumrah (1/44) added to the pressure.
With this win, Mumbai Indians continue to build momentum in the league, while Delhi Capitals are left to regroup after another close defeat.
