Rain Harms KKR-RCB IPL 2025 Opener in Kolkata

The IPL 2025 season opener comprising defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on March 22 is under threat due to the inclement weather being witnessed in Kolkata. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds, issuing an orange alert for the region. The spell is expected to continue until Friday and Saturday, possibly impeding the much-awaited match.

Both teams have already faced their share of interrupted training days ahead of the match, including a KKR intersquad practice game that was washed out earlier this week. Although light rain did affect the practice on both Wednesday and Thursday, the concern for the opener is now the weather forecast for March 22.

The IPL offers built-in leeway, permitting an extra hour for the match to conclude, so a five-over-per-side game can stretch to midnight. If the rain stops a result, both teams will split one point each.

The match, featuring an opening ceremony, will have the toss at 7 pm with the start at 7:30 pm at Eden Gardens. Following the opener, KKR will fly to Guwahati on March 26 to face Rajasthan Royals, while RCB will travel to Chennai for a bout against the Super Kings on March 28.(source-ESPNInfo)
